Water Safety Tips to remember when swimming with your children.

JUNE is a great month to get into the water as much as possible. Here are some water safety tips to remember when swimming with your children.

  • Always actively supervise your children in and around the water-- even if lifeguards are present
  • Always have your child swim with a buddy or guardian
  • Have your child practice some of their swimming skills before play time in the water, to make sure they remember their strokes and/or rolling and floating
  • If you have a pool, secure it with appropriate barriers. These include fences with child-proof locking mechanisms, alarms that sense water movement, and chimes that alert when doors that access a pool area have been opened
  • Never leave your child unattended near water
  • During pool parties ALWAYS have a designated water watcher, someone who will not be distracted by conversation or other activities that may be ongoing at the party.
  • Make sure you are CPR certified, it is a life saving skill. Even though we hope you never have to use CPR, if you find yourself in an emergency situation, you will be thankful you have the training.
  • Finally, make sure you continue your weekly swim lessons. This is to ensure that if all the precautions above fail and your child ends up falling into a pool unsupervised, they will be able to swim or float to safety.

We hope you and your family have a fabulous and safe swimming season this Summer. Enjoy all the hard work you and your children have put into their swim lessons leading up to this Summer!!
